Notes on Silence

“Notes on Silence” is an on/off prose project that evolves around the themes of love, loss, memory and fatherhood. They are brief notes, some factual, some fictional, and fragmented the way all my memories are. The writing of these notes began when I first listened to Jay Winter speak of silence as a force that may bind families together: When there are memories that defy language, selective silence – rather than the events about which we keep silent – comes to define us as a social unit. Such silence comes at a cost about the weight of which I am as yet unsure.
